Kerajaan tidak menolak kemungkinan meminda Akta Mahkamah Syariah (Bidang Kuasa Jenayah) 1965  atau Akta 355 bagi mengenakan hukuman lebih berat terhadap golongan lesbian, gay, biseksual dan transgender (LGBT).

Timbalan Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri (Hal Ehwal Agama) Ahmad Marzuk Shaary berkata hukuman semasa di bawah akta tersebut, iaitu tiga tahun penjara, denda RM5,000 serta enam kali sebatan dilihat kurang memberi kesan kepada golongan berkenaan.

Pindaan ini dilihat perlu bagi menangani salah laku mereka, katanya kepada pemberita selepas Majlis Penyerahan Sumbangan Food Bank oleh Jabatan Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (Jawi) di Kompleks Purnama dekat Pengkalan Chepa, di sini hari ini.

Menurutnya pada masa ini tindakan tegas sudah dikenakan terhadap mereka yang berpakaian bertentangan dengan jantina mereka.

“Semua agensi dan penguat kuasa agama negeri sudah diarahkan mengambil tindakan terhadap mereka (LGBT) yang berkelakuan tidak sopan.

“Seperti yang saya tegaskan sebelum ini bahawa maksiat daripada LGBT itu, kita tidak izinkan mereka berkelakuan seperti itu,” katanya.

Beliau turut meminta orang ramai yang mempunyai maklumat berhubung kegiatan tidak sihat yang dilakukan oleh golongan berkenaan tampil membuat laporan kepada pihak berwajib bagi membolehkan tindakan tegas diambil.
