Thousands of people have again converged outside the United States embassy in Kuala Lumpur today to protest against a visit by Donald Trump, in a sign of increasing pressure on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to cancel his invitation to the US president to attend the Asean summit later this month.

A heavy police presence ensure participants are prevented from gathering near the main entrance of the embassy.

They shouted slogans such as "Halau Trump" (Get Out Trump), "Hancur Israel" (Death to Israel) and "Hancur Amerika" (Death to America), as speeches were delivered questioning the government's stand on the Palestinian issue.

Today's gathering is the largest in recent days, after protests flared up at the same location amid anger over Israel's attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla which involves Malaysian activists.

Yesterday, a scuffle erupted as police tried to prevent protesters from gathering outside the embassy gate. Two protesters were arrested.

Anwar has so far rejected calls to cancel the invitation, even as anger boils over Trump's latest ceasefire plan for Gaza, which received support from Washington's Arab allies but widely condemned by Palestinians as a new form of colonialism and a recipe for Palestinian surrender.

Anwar's government, however, has welcomed the plan.
