Confident of strong public support in favour of Perikatan Nasional (PN) in Selangor, the coalition's chairman Muhyiddin Yassin today announced a stimulus package of more than RM2 billion for the state's economy if it succeeds in forming the state government at the Aug 12 polls.
Muhyiddin said the package was to alleviate the pressure brought on by the cost of living and economic situation, which he attributed to inefficiency on the part of the state and federal governments led by Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional.
"The winds of change are blowing strongly in the state of Selangor, and hopefully they will form a big wave in the form of strong and solid support from the people for PN," he said at an event to unveil PN's offers for Selangor.
Under the Prihatin Selangor economic stimulus package, PN is putting forward seven pillars with 112 offers for voters in Malaysia's richest state, including RM312 million a year for the Bantuan Prihatin Keluarga Selangor scheme.
"This initiative is expected to help 65,000 needy families through the provision of monthly assistance worth RM400 for the purchase of basic goods," he said in Shah Alam.
The offer also excludes parking fees in areas under the jurisdiction of local authorities in northern Selangor.
Other exemptions include business licences for hawkers, stalls, and markets and rental fees for local government-owned business traders' sites for registered hawkers.
PN is also offering a special annual allowance of at least two months' salary for civil servants in Selangor and RM10,000 for 30,000 businesses owned by women entrepreneurs.
"We will also build 20 Selangor childcare centres a year, complete with modern facilities and professional teaching staff, and put aside a special fund worth RM50 million for state agencies and private companies to open new childcare centres at the workplace," Muhyiddin said.
He also said that the 20-cubic-metre free water initiative would be extended to households with an income of RM15,000 and below.
"We will also provide an annual allocation of RM200 million to overcome the problem of broken pipes and implement a programme to replace old pipes in 100 hotspot areas," he said.
