Former Umno man Noh Omar today said that the "real unity government" had taken place under the administration of Muhyiddin Yassin.

Noh, the former Selangor Umno chairman, said every party involved in the adminstration at that point had worked together at the federal level despite going their individual ways at the state level.

Speaking at a Perikatan Nasional (PN) event in Shah Alam, he gave the example of the 2021 state elections in Melaka and Johor, where Umno had clashed with Bersatu and PAS despite both Barisan Nasional (BN) and PN holding portfolios in the federal Cabinet.

"It's strange, seeing the Umno leadership now," he added.

"This unity government may have been decreed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, but I am confident that the unity government under Muhyiddin was the most successful."

At that point, he said, Umno had been with PN.

"I still remember, at the central level – I was a minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali was a minister, and Saifuddin Abdullah was also a minister.

"Imagine, during the Melaka and Johor polls, on Wednesday we attended a Cabinet meeting. As soon as the meeting ended and night fell, we were at war."

Noh was commenting on the decision by BN and Pakatan Harapan, its partner in Putrajaya, to allocate seats in a way that would prevent clashes at the coming elections.

He also expressed confidence that PN could take Selangor in the event of one-on-one fights with PH or BN.

"PH must be brought down – that has been my goal for three terms since 2008," the former Tanjong Karang MP said.

"But BN is running on hope."
