Mohamed Azmin Ali today said that Perikatan Nasional (PN) is confident of taking Selangor at the state election to come, based on the coalition's performance at the 15th general election (GE15) last year.

The Selangor PN chairman said the aim was to win 33 of the 56 seats in the state assembly, a goal which he described as doable.

Azmin, who was Selangor menteri besar from 2014 to 2018, said that according to screenshots published by the Election Commission, PN had won 14 state assembly seats, losing nine others by fewer than 5,000 votes.

"Not all, some were only 100 votes," he added. "There were two or three seats with a majority of less than 3,000.

"This means we need 1,000 to 2,000 votes and given the current situation, we are confident that these seats can be taken by PN," he told reporters in Gombak, Selangor.

Azmin said the calculations meant that 23 seats were already within reach for PN, making possible its goal of 30 seats.

In terms of seat allocations, Azmin said PN's discussions at the state level were already complete and had been presented at the central level before Aidilfitri.

"We are almost done. I can say that nearly all of the seats have been presented, with a decision to be made by the central leadership," he added.

The Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman also said that PN's manifesto for the Selangor election would focus on issues such as the economy and cost of living.

He said the manifesto would be presented in the near future.
