The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today said it had detained the senior officer to Human Resources Minister V Sivakumar in relation to an investigation into claims of graft involving a migrant worker recruitment agency.

MalaysiaNow understands that the anti-graft agency is looking into a total of RM97 million in bribes.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki, who confirmed the arrest, said several others had also been detained to assist in the investigation.

The investigation is centred on claims that those involved had set up the recruitment agency to obtain approval from the ministry despite conflict of interest.

MACC officers are said to have raided the ministry this morning, with a focus on other individuals within the ministry and its related agencies as well.

A source meanwhile said that two individuals had been arrested, including a recruitment agent.

Both have been remanded for six days.
