The top leaders of Perikatan Nasional (PN) and hundreds of supporters today converged at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya, as the coalition's chairman Muhyiddin Yassin arrived amid speculation of his impending arrest.
A large crowd greeted Muhyiddin as he arrived for questioning, with coalition partner PAS mobilising support across the nation to protest what it said was part of efforts by the Anwar Ibrahim administration to paralyse PN ahead of critical state elections this year.
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahin Tuan Man, who was among the scores of PN leaders outside the MACC office, said the allegations were part of selective prosecution by the authorities.
He said they were also to deflect attention from problems faced by Pakatan Harapan in the wake of the decision by the Registrar of Societies on Umno's move to ban elections for its top two posts.
"To me, this is part of an effort to cover up the real issues and we believe that these accusations are selective.
"We pray that Muhyiddin will be safe in the protection of God," Tuan Ibrahim told reporters, adding that PAS had lined up a series of programmes today in defence of the coalition leader.
Meanwhile, Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal lashed out at the latest move against his party president.
"We have the highest support among the Malays, so they are trying to kill us," he said.
Bersatu Supreme Council member Mohamed Azmin Ali meanwhile said today marked "the start of a mass movement".
"There are planned efforts to paralyse the rise of the people through PN," he said.
