The first phase of lockers in primary schools with two sessions will be installed at the end of this month, according to Education Minister Radzi Jidin.

He said the initiative would be implemented to address the issue of heavy school bags.

"As a start, the first phase of lockers will be installed for Standard One and Year Two pupils by October," he told reporters yesterday.

However, he said the education ministry had not finalised the location of the schools involved in the installation of the first phase, which would be announced later.

On March 6, Radzi said the ministry would provide lockers in primary schools as one of seven approaches to address the issue of heavy school bags.

On a separate matter, he described the hybrid solar project for rural schools in Sarawak as complicated as it is facing many legal issues that need to be examined by the ministry.

"It is a complicated matter that I need to go through. The ministry is looking into it," he said.
