PKR leaders have reacted angrily to Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah’s protest walkout at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday during a speech by Najib Razak to debate the 2021 budget.

Maria was labelled “stupid” and “dumb” for her action, with PKR Youth’s vice-chief Syed Badli Shah Syed Osman urging the former Bersih 2.0 chairman to resign for criticising the ex-prime minister.

“How dumb is this YB,” Syed Badli said in a post on Twitter. “It would be better for you to resign instead of walking out.”

After her walkout, Maria took to Twitter to express her dissatisfaction with Najib whom she said was convicted of corruption over former 1MDB unit SRC International but debated the bill “as if nothing had happened”.

“Najib Razak has been convicted of corruption. But today, he attended as BBC chief and debated the 2021 budget as if nothing had happened.

“I PROTESTED and have WALKED OUT! #NotMyNewNormal,” she wrote.

PKR Youth secretary Ahmad Syukri Razab also criticised Maria for her boycott of Najib.

“For me, MPs who boycott and walk out of the Dewan while Najib Razak is speaking are stupid,” he wrote on Facebook.

In July, Najib was sentenced to 12 years in jail and fined RM210 million after he was found guilty of seven charges of criminal breach of trust, abuse of power, and money laundering RM42 million belonging to SRC International.

Najib, who is Pekan MP, is appealing against his jail term and fine.

MalaysiaNow previously revealed that Najib, together with Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, had written to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in support of PKR’s Anwar Ibrahim becoming prime minister.
