Former president Donald Trump has warned that huge numbers of migrants are crossing into the US since Joe Biden became president.

“Our country is being destroyed at the southern border, a terrible thing to see!” Trump said this week.

He said that under his watch, “We ended Catch-and-Release, shut down asylum fraud and crippled the vicious smugglers, drug dealers and human traffickers.”

The former president also claimed construction of the border wall would be completed by now if Democrats hadn’t delayed the project.

The number of children detained in federal facilities has skyrocketed since control of the White House shifted to Biden from Trump.

The situation has become so dire that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has resorted to asking for volunteers from other agencies to help hold the line, according to the New York Post.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said this week that the flood of migrants at the southern border is a problem the Biden administration has “self-inflicted” by rolling back Trump’s immigration policies.

“It is a self-inflicted wound because border patrol officers informed Biden about this all along, and they knew exactly what was going to happen if they refused to continue to implement the policies that were previously in place.”

Abbott said border patrol officials told him that the numbers who have been apprehended already this year have easily surpassed all of last year.

Last year, 90,000 people were apprehended. In the first three months of this year, 108,000 people have been apprehended in the Rio Grande area alone.

He said the Mexican drug cartels are making money guiding children travelling alone to the US, where they abandon them to the border agents.

“The cartels know exactly what they’re doing. It’s called flooding the zone to preoccupy the border patrol.”

The Lone Star State governor said unless the Biden administration makes some changes, the situation will only get worse in the coming months.

“Remember, this is a low-number month: the numbers coming will increase dramatically later in the year. We’re probably going to have maybe a million people cross the Texas border this year. It’s going to turn into a total disaster if the Biden administration does not step up and begin implementing stronger measures,” he said.

Reuters reports that the Mexican government is tearing its hair out over how crime cartels are cashing in on “helping” the migrants.

Southern Border Coordinator Roberta Jacobson claimed smugglers are giving out “disinformation” that migrants will be welcome in the US. “But how is it really disinformation when they see it with their own eyes?” she asked.

As Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has put it: “They see Biden as the migrant president, so many feel this time they’re going to reach America.”
