US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania have decided to undergo quarantine as they await the results of their Covid-19 tests after his top aide Hope Hicks tested positive for the virus.

“Terrible!” Trump tweeted. “The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!”

Hicks had earlier travelled with Trump including to the presidential debate on Tuesday.

CNN reported that she also took the official Marine One helicopter to a campaign rally in Minnesota along with several close aides including Jared Kushner, Dan Scavino and Nicholas Luna, none of whom wore masks.

Trump, who has publicly ridiculed the face mask rule, insists that Hicks had worn a mask at all times.

“Lot of masks, she wears masks a lot but she tested positive,” he told Fox News.

“I just went for a test and we’ll see what happens, I mean, who knows… I spent a lot of time with Hope and so does the first lady, and she’s tremendous.”
