Vietnamese police have seized more than 300,000 used condoms that were about to be washed, reshaped and resold in local markets, VN Express International reports.

Besides the buckets of unwashed condoms, inspectors also found thousands that had already been cleaned and packaged without brand names and were ready for sale.

The 32-year-old woman at the heart of the business said that around once a month, “somebody” delivered thousands of used condoms to her.

Where he got them from, she did not know.

Her job was to clean, dry and sort the condoms before making them look fresh again for new customers.

More details about the illegal operation were not released and authorities are investigating the case further.

It is unclear how many recycled condoms have already been sold or how well they performed.

Police said the condoms have been confiscated to use as evidence but will be disposed of immediately after because they are considered hazardous medical waste.

Medical authorities have previously warned about the dangers of washing and reusing condoms saying it was hazardous to health.
