Over 40,000 still at Johor flood relief centres

Of these, 27,774 are in Batu Pahat.

A total of 27,774 flood victims remained at evacuation centres (PPS) in Batu Pahat, Johor, this morning, while the situation in other districts is said to be improving with fine weather forecast for today. 

As of 8am, there were 40,141 flood victims at 202 PPS in eight districts in Johor, compared to 40,008 people yesterday.

According to the state disaster management committee (SDMC), Batu Pahat is the worst affected district with 27,774 evacuees, followed by Muar (4,080) and Tangkak (2,536).

The water level at 10 rivers meanwhile has exceeded the danger level, including Sungai Batu Pahat at Bekok Dam (Batu Pahat), Sungai Muar at Bukit Kepong (Muar) and Sungai Muar at Buloh Kasap (Segamat).

In Melaka, the number of flood victims in Jasin decreased to 598 this morning compared to 606 at 8pm yesterday.

In Pahang, the SDMC secretariat reported that the number of flood victims remained at 2,268, housed at 16 PPS.
