Perikatan Nasional (PN) today announced its stand against the holding of the 15th general election this year, saying this would coincide with the probability of year-end floods especially in east coast states.

PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said holding polls during the flood season would affect the election process and bring difficulty to the people.

"The government must focus on preparations for the flood season, and give its attention to efforts to speed up Malaysia's economic recovery post Covid-19," he said.

In a statement, he added that the people were currently struggling with the problems of inflation and the rising cost of goods as well as the drop in ringgit value and sluggish economic growth.

"The government should focus fully on resolving these problems, particularly through Budget 2023," he said.

Adding that the ministers from PN had been asked to make clear their stand at the Cabinet meeting, he said MPs from the coalition should take the same position as well.
