Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi waves at the party's general assembly in March last year where the motion to cut ties with Bersatu was passed.

PAS is making efforts to reconcile Bersatu and Umno, to unite the ummah in preparation for the 15th general election, says PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

"Insha Allah (the effort) will be fruitful. The people want to see the same thing (the unity of ummah)... and PAS plays the role of uniting the two sides.

"We need political stability which can only be achieved when there is an element of political consensus," he said.

Tuan Ibrahim, who is also environment and water minister, said this at a press conference after chairing the special implementation committee meeting for the implementation of the Sungai Klang-Rassau dual function reservoir project and the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant Phase 2 in Putrajaya yesterday.

He said PAS was working to restore ties between Bersatu and Umno after the latter stated its decision at the 2020 general assembly to reject any cooperation with Bersatu.

Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin was reported as saying on Sept 27 that the formation of a unity agenda among the Muslims of Bersatu, PAS and Umno could not be realised as Umno had rejected cooperation with Bersatu.

Tuan Ibrahim said the parties still had time to hold discussions and achieve a political consensus.

"Both parties should sit down (to discuss) as some Bersatu members were from Umno (earlier). We want to see a better political future in the context of political consensus," he said.

Asked about the stand of PAS in choosing its partners in political cooperation, Tuan Ibrahim said the party should not be given an ultimatum as PAS felt the need to unite the ummah among the political parties representing the Malays.

PAS earlier said it would finalise the direction of its political cooperation soon.
