Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob says he has yet to discuss a date for the 15th general election with the Umno top five, namely party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, deputy president Mohamad Hasan and the three vice-presidents: Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Mahdzir Khalid and Ismail himself.

He said the matter would only be discussed with MCA, MIC and other Barisan Nasional (BN) components after such talks were held.

"Then it has to be tabled to the Cabinet because under the constitution, I must get the Cabinet’s approval before I go to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, to get his consent for Parliament to be dissolved.

"That's the procedure that needs to be observed," he said in a speech at the Bera Umno complex in Padang Luas yesterday.

Nevertheless, Ismail told BN leaders in the Bera constituency to be ready with their election machinery and to meet with the voters to maintain the coalition’s victory in Bera and the Guai and Kemayan state seats, as well as to recapture the Triang state seat.

While the date for GE15 was still unknown, it was getting closer, he said, referring to a statement by Mohamad, who expects the election to be held before the end of the year.

Ismail said that in Bera, the BN machinery should work hard not only to maintain its hold on the parliamentary and the Guai and Kemayan state seats, but also to win the Triang state seat from DAP.

"Now, the Triang seat is given to MCA, and MCA has to prove that they can win the seat. It is a challenge for MCA and for all of us to recapture the seat which everybody says will remain with DAP," he added.
