The number of new Covid-19 cases in Malaysia continued to show a decrease with 1,483 cases reported on Sunday compared to 1,971 on Saturday.

The same situation was also seen last week, the 36th epidemiological week (ME 36/2022) from Sept 4 to 10, with 14,072 Covid-19 infections recorded compared to 15,530 the week before.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the number of deaths during ME 36/2022 decreased by 27.7%, from 47 in ME 35/2022 to 34, while recoveries saw a 12.8% drop from 19,813 to 17,286.

"The daily average number of active cases for that period was 27,503, which is a decrease of 12.2% compared to the previous week," he said in a statement on Covid-19 developments today.

Meanwhile, admissions of Covid-19 patients to health facilities such as public hospitals and quarantine and treatment centres per 100,000 residents increased 3.4% for patients in Category One and Two, and dropped by 3.7% for those in Category Three and above.

ICU bed occupancy decreased by 1% while the percentage of Covid-19 patients requiring ventilators decreased 0.2% during ME 36/2022 compared to the previous week.

The number of positive cases monitored by the Covid-19 assessment centres (CACs) across the country also showed a decrease.

"The number of patient arrivals to CACs decreased by 15.8%. New cases undergoing monitoring at home dropped by 11.0% while the number of cases referred by CACs to hospitals went down by 1.9%," Noor Hisham said.
