Perikatan Nasional (PN) will seek clarification from PAS about claims that secret negotiations were held between the party and Umno on the need for collaboration to face Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the 15th general election (GE15).

PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said an explanation from the PAS president or secretary-general was important to determine the truth of the negotiations.

"Is it really serious or to what extent it will go... I will think about such issues but for now, I cannot comment because I am only hearing from the media.

"What I am aware of is that the Umno leadership during the Umno general assembly decided to not be associated with Bersatu, and that decision has not changed.

"... We (Bersatu), on the other hand, have established cooperation between PN and PAS, so how are we going to face GE15 under such circumstances? To me, we need to act so that PN will have a clear stand, without any doubts, on the direction and road map of our future," he said to reporters in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

He was commenting on a statement by PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin that there had been secret negotiations involving certain leaders from Umno and PAS on the need for a one-on-one challenge between them and PH in GE15.

Hashim said PAS wanted Umno to know that the main opposition during GE15 would be PH and not Bersatu.

Muhyiddin said that different opinions within the party would not auger well for the future of PN.

"We will brief the public on our position. PN’s position is clear in many ways, including our decision not to work with anyone involved in the misuse of power, corruption, or who is bogged down with court cases or other detrimental issues.

"But whatever issues that may arise, we will discuss," he said.

Meanwhile, PN secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said PN's Supreme Council would meet and discuss various subjects related to GE15 as well as the coalition.

He said the meeting would be chaired by Muhyiddin and attended by various leaders from PAS and Gerakan.
