The government today announced that there would be no increase in tariffs for electricity and water in the peninsula.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the government would instead continue covering subsidies of RM5.8 billion despite a sharp increase in fuel and other generation assets.

“The 2 sen/kWh rebate will be maintained for all domestic consumers with no surcharge imposed.

“To that end, there is no increase in electricity tariffs for domestic consumers in the peninsula.

“The imposition of a surcharge of 3.70 sen/kWh will be maintained for non-domestic consumers, namely commercial and industrial consumers,” he said in a statement.

He also said that the price of chicken would not be floated, as was previously announced.

He said a new ceiling price would be announced by the agriculture and food industry ministry.
