There is no guarantee that incumbent Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen will be fielded again in the 15th general election (GE15), state BN chairman Saarani Mohamad says.

The Perak menteri besar said it would depend on the situation as there might be new faces who could replace the old candidates, as was the case in the Melaka state election.

“We (Perak BN) have started to get the names from the divisions. At the same time, we need to do a study from the relevant parties so that the candidates are winnable ones,” he said after launching the Parit BN election machinery in Seri Iskandar last night.

Asked about the right time to hold the election, the Kota Tampan assemblyman said it would be best to hold it this year, after taking into consideration the readiness of the BN machinery throughout the state.

Meanwhile, Parit MP Mohd Nizar Zakaria said his division was “ready for battle” to regain the mandate of the voters in GE15.

“Alhamdulillah, the commitment of party members and the machinery is very high to ensure the victory of BN candidates, for both the parliamentary and the two state constituencies in it, namely Belanja and Bota,” he said.

The Perak state legislature has 59 assemblymen with 25 from BN who are all from Umno. The rest are from Bersatu (seven), PAS (three), DAP (16), Parti Amanah Negara (five) and PKR (three).
