The education ministry today announced that the term of service for interim teachers appointed in 2019 will be extended by another year.

In a statement, it said this would allow the Education Service Commission (SPP) to complete the interviews and permanent appointments for teachers who meet the set requirements.

Interim teachers appointed before 2019 meanwhile must meet the conditions for appointments under the Education Service Officer Service Scheme, to be certified by the education ministry before submission to the SPP for interviews and permanent appointments.

Education Minister Radzi Jidin said on March 9 that interim English teachers appointed on April 29, 2019 whose terms expired on April 21 this year would be appointed to permanent positions if they meet the necessary conditions.

He said the teachers had to meet the required proficiency level under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), namely CEFR C1, besides passing the interview.
