Assistant surveyor detained 7 days over RM3,000 bribe

He is believed to have received the bribe in return for approval for a house renovation plan without going through local government procedures.

An assistant surveyor for the local government has been remanded for seven days from today to assist in investigations into bribery of RM3,000.

The remand order until April 13 was issued by magistrate Intan Syafinaz Ros’lin at the Seremban Magistrate’s Court in Negeri Sembilan today following the application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

A source said the 40-year-old suspect was arrested at 3.30pm yesterday at the Negeri Sembilan MACC office where he had gone for questioning.

The source said the man was believed to have received a bribe of RM3,000 in return for approval for an application for a house renovation plan without going through local government procedures in August 2019.

Negeri Sembilan MACC chief Awangkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awang Ismail confirmed the remand, saying the case is being investigated under Section 16(1)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
