New cases hover just over 10,000 as another 28 deaths logged

Recoveries more than doubled the number of new infections at 23,302.

Another 10,002 Covid-19 cases were recorded yesterday, taking total confirmed infections in the country to 4,256,469.

Of the total number of cases recorded, 89 were in Category Three and above.

There were 23,302 recoveries, taking total recoveries to 4,041,723.

A total of 543 cases were admitted to hospital, with 226 (41.6%) in Category Three and above and 317 (58.4%) in Category One and Two.

Of the 89 cases in Category Three and above reported yesterday:

* 31 (34.83%) were not vaccinated or had not completed their vaccination;
* 34 (38.20%) had received two doses of vaccine;
* 24 (26.97%) had received a booster jab;
* 51 (57.30%) were aged 60 and above; and
* 60 (67.42%) had comorbidities.

There are now 179,619 active cases, of which 175,339 or 97.6% are undergoing home quarantine.

Meanwhile, 422 (0.2%) are at quarantine centres while 3,622 (2.0%) have been hospitalised.

A total of 236 are in ICU with 140 in need of respiratory assistance. ICU utilisation throughout the country stands at 53.8%, with Covid ICU utilisation at 26.9%.

Another 28 deaths were reported, including seven who were brought in dead. Total deaths now stand at 35,127.

The country’s infectivity rate as of April 4 was 0.86.
