Daily cases cross 28,200 as another 105 deaths logged

More than 34,000 deaths have been reported since the start of the pandemic.

Another 28,298 Covid-19 cases were recorded yesterday, taking total confirmed infections in the country to 3,900,433.

Of the total number of cases recorded, 214 were in Category Three and above.

There were 33,009 recoveries, taking total recoveries to 3,567,003.

A total of 1,743 cases were admitted to hospital, with 743 (42.6%) in Category Three and above and 1,000 (57.4%) in Category One and Two.

Of the 214 cases in Category Three and above reported yesterday:

* 56 (26.17%) were not vaccinated or had not completed their vaccination;
* 101 (47.20%) had received two doses of vaccine;
* 57 (26.64%) had received a booster jab;
* 119 (55.61%) were aged 60 and above;
* 82 (38.32%) had comorbidities; and
* 2 (0.93%) were pregnant women.

There are now 299,331 active cases, of which 289,043 or 96.6% are undergoing home quarantine.

Meanwhile, 2,082 (0.7%) are at quarantine centres while 7,832 (2.6%) have been hospitalised.

A total of 374 are in ICU with 233 in need of respiratory assistance. ICU utilisation throughout the country stands at 57.9%, with Covid ICU utilisation at 42.4%.

Another 105 deaths were reported, including 29 who were brought in dead. Total deaths now stand at 34,099.

The country’s infectivity rate as of March 16 was 0.96.
