Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin today dismissed claims by Dr Mahathir Mohamad that he had failed to block the advance of former prime minister Najib Razak’s bid to return to power.

He also reminded Mahathir that he had been sacked as deputy prime minister during the administration of Barisan Nasional (BN) because he opposed Najib’s wrongdoings.

“Why say now that I failed to block Najib? I opposed them, I fell from power because I was against what they did – corruption and abuse of power,” the National Recovery Council chairman said when met by reporters after meeting with the Chinese community in Gambir, Tangkak.

Mahathir in yet another letter today had said that Muhyiddin, during Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) tenure in Putrajaya, had wanted to become prime minister and turned his back on voters in order to accomplish his ambitions.

The Langkawi MP also referred to the Sheraton Move which saw the downfall of PH and Muhyiddin replacing Mahathir as prime minister.

He urged all who were against kleptocracy to support Pejuang in order to restore the government for the interests of the people.

Speaking today, Muhyiddin said Najib had already been brought to court and found guilty in the SRC International case which saw him sentenced to jail for 12 years and fined RM210 million.

Najib, the Pekan MP, is appealing his case at the Federal Court.

Muhyiddin and Mahathir have been seen as at odds since the Sheraton Move which also saw the latter sacked from Bersatu, the party he helped found together with Muhyiddin.

Mahathir went on to form Pejuang, which will be contesting an election for the first time in Johor on March 12.

Pejuang and Bersatu are expected to clash in a number of seats come election day.

PN, which includes Bersatu, is contesting all 56 seats in the state assembly while Pejuang is fielding candidates in 42.
