The office of the Johor state assembly speaker today denied receiving any application letter for the dissolution of the state assembly.

This follows a report by a portal which had gone viral on social media claiming that Suhaizan Kaiat had received such a letter.

“No, the information by the portal is not true,” he told Bernama when contacted.

The portal claimed that Johor Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad had sent a letter to the state assembly speaker’s office yesterday, seeking the dissolution of the state assembly.

Rumours of a state election have been rife since the death of Kempas assemblyman Osman Sapian last month, which left the Umno-led state government with a one-seat majority in the state assembly.

Barisan Nasional holds 28 seats through Umno (14), Bersatu (11) and PAS (one), while Pakatan Harapan has 27 seats through DAP (14), PKR (seven) and Amanah (six).
