A total of 186 new Covid-19 cases of the Omicron variant of concern (VOC) were reported in Malaysia between Jan 14 and yesterday, says health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said the Integrative Pharmacogenomics Institute, Universiti Teknologi Mara had detected 46 new cases, the Tropical Infectious Diseases Research & Education Centre 43 cases and the Malaysia Genome and Vaccine Institute another 43 cases.
The Institute for Medical Research detected 28 new cases while the Institute of Health and Community Medicine, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak detected 26 new cases.
“This brings the cumulative figure for SARS-CoV-2 infections categorised as VOC and variants of interest (VOI) to 6,432 cases.
“Of this number, 6,412 cases are VOC while 20 cases are VOI,” he said in a statement.
Noor Hisham also said 17 new clusters were detected yesterday, raising the number of active clusters to 188, while the infectivity rate in the country was at 0.98.
