Perikatan Nasional (PN) today denied claims that it has been handing out cash bribes to woo the support of voters ahead of the Melaka state election this weekend.

Its information coordinator in Melaka, Badrul Hisham Shaharin, said the pictures making the rounds of money being put into envelopes bearing the PN logo were slanderous and irresponsible attempts to tarnish its image.

“Even the way the pictures were taken is enough to show that they are the work of PN’s enemies,” he said in a statement.

“The pictures don’t show any faces, and the way the person is holding the money is exaggerated.

“The question is, why put our logo there? So that people will believe it is PN’s money?”

Badrul said PN had from the start been the target of false propaganda attacks believed to be part of efforts to discredit the coalition.

“Before this, fake statements were also issued with PN’s letterhead,” he said.

“These are all efforts by our enemies to try and divert attention.”
