Perikatan Nasional (PN) today welcomed PAS’ decision to contest the Melaka state election using the coalition’s logo, saying it reflects the spirit of consensus among the component parties.

PN information chief Mohamed Azmin Ali said the coalition was determined to unite to ensure the stability of the government and the continued implementation of policies and initiatives for the socio-economic benefit and well-being of the country.

“PN is confident that the people of Melaka are mature and wise enough to support the coalition, which has always promoted unity and prioritised public well-being,” he said in a statement.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had said on Monday that his party would contest the Melaka polls using PN’s logo, dealing a blow to Umno which had hoped to avoid clashes with the Islamist party come Nov 20.

However, the Malay party said PAS’ decision to contest the election under PN’s logo would not affect its ties in the Muafakat Nasional charter of cooperation.
