MPs are now allowed to remove their face masks when debating, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Harun said today.

He said this was decided after obtaining the views of the health ministry which carried out a Covid-19 risk assessment in Parliament.

“However, all MPs must immediately put on their face mask once they are done speaking,” he said when announcing the matter.

On RTK Antigen and RT-PCR screening tests, Azhar said no individual on the Parliament grounds had tested positive for Covid-19 in the current session so far.

MPs were previously not allowed to remove their face masks while speaking or debating, with Azhar also encouraging them to double mask.
