Dine-in activities in Kuching and other southern districts in Sarawak will be banned for a week as state authorities tighten Covid-19 restrictions amid a new wave of infections which saw over 2,500 more cases reported today alone.

The state disaster management committee said under the stricter SOPs, business operation hours would also be shortened from 5am to 8pm while people would be banned from being at public places without good cause after 10pm.

The tighter SOPs will apply to the districts of Kuching, Bau, Lundu, Samarahan, Asajaya, Simunjan, Serian and Tebedu from Aug 22 to 29.

Sarawak today reported a total of 2,548 new cases, taking its cumulative caseload to 94,564.

Kuching itself logged 1,601 new infections.

Of the total cases recorded in Sarawak today, 2,547 or 99.96% were in Category One and Two, and one was in Category Five.
