Pejuang’s Covid-19 recovery council met today for the first time, with health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah invited to listen to views by its members.

Pejuang chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad said council members had listened to a briefing by Noor Hisham, adding that they hoped to submit recommendations and proposals through him to the government on fighting the pandemic.

“We can send to various personalities in the government, maybe even to the prime minister, the health minister, and the other ministers involved,” he told a press conference today.

The former prime minister said although the body is not officially recognised, he believed that the government had followed many of the proposals he had previously made, including on forming the National Recovery Council.

“Some of the ideas that we enunciated were taken up by the government,” he said, citing the government’s move to start mobile vaccination units in villages.

“Maybe it’s a coincidence, but the government has already initiated mobile units.”

He said the council was ready to give other suggestions that the government might implement, including on delivering aid to those under lockdown, and the treatment of Covid-19 patients with light symptoms.

“I hope we can inform the government. Whether they accept or not, is not our concern.”
