The wife of Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong today hailed Malaysia’s vaccination rate against Covid-19, noting its increase to about half a million shots per day.

“This is the current run rate in the US too, except the US has 10 times the population of M’sia,” Ho Ching said in a Facebook post also praising vaccination efforts in the city-state.

“Go, go, go!” she added.

As of yesterday, over 21 million vaccine jabs had been administered nationwide under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) launched on Feb 24.

Some 14 million were administered as first doses while just under seven million were given as second doses.

About 21% of the country’s population have been fully vaccinated while 29% of the adult population have received both shots.

PICK coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin said last week that the government is aiming to fully vaccinate 50% of the adult population by Merdeka Day on Aug 31.

The government is also finalising a draft of relaxed SOPs for those who have been fully vaccinated, with an announcement to be made by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
