Death toll tops 9,000 as daily cases surge past 17,700 to new high

Another 17,786 Covid-19 cases were recorded today, taking total confirmed infections in the country to 1,113,272.

Selangor recorded 6,400 cases, Kuala Lumpur 1,962, Kedah 1,389, Johor 1,144 and Sabah 1,035.

Negeri Sembilan recorded 929 cases, Terengganu 883, Perak 775, Penang 713, Melaka 697, Pahang 653, Kelantan 580, Sarawak 485 and Putrajaya 116.

Perlis recorded 16 cases and Labuan nine.

Active cases stand at 189,609 with 1,062 in the ICU and 534 in need of respiratory assistance.

Another 11,718 patients were discharged, bringing total recoveries to 914,639.

However, 165 more deaths were reported, pushing the virus toll to 9,024.
