A total of 46.7% of the adult population in Malaysia have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine while 21.8% have completed both doses, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said today.

He said the progress in the vaccination drive was in line with the target set by the government, adding however that efforts need to be intensified in order to achieve the goal of fully vaccinating 26 million people in the country.

He said the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) had succeeded in recording a daily vaccination rate of over 400,000 doses since July 12, reaching a peak yesterday at 507,050 doses.

This brings the number of individuals who have received a first dose to 10,920,862 and those fully vaccinated to 5,104,054 as of yesterday, he said in a Facebook post.

He said the burden of cases in hospitals and the number of severe infections could be reduced through vaccination, which would also facilitate efforts to ensure the success of the National Recovery Plan.

Muhyiddin also thanked and congratulated all Malaysians for their support for PICK, especially the frontliners and volunteers at vaccination centres.
