Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Harun says the special Dewan Rakyat sitting at the end of the month will be held under 'very strict SOPs'.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Harun today said there had been several Covid-19 infections among Parliament staff, adding however that quick measures had been taken to isolate these cases.

“We have identified all of their close contacts within Parliament and swab tested them as well as quarantined them,” Azhar told MalaysiaNow when contacted.

“Their respective offices were quickly closed and sanitised.”

The development comes as preparations are underway for a five-day special sitting of the Dewan Rakyat from July 26, where MPs are expected to debate the National Recovery Plan as well as pass amendments that would allow a hybrid parliamentary sitting.

Azhar however said that not all of the reported cases had originated from within the Parliament building.

He also said that so far, the cases would not affect the planned sitting.

“We have prepared and will enforce very strict SOPs for the sitting,” he added.
