Saudi Arabia has given the green light for the Sinovac jab, allowing millions of Muslims who have been administered with the Chinese vaccine to perform the haj or umrah to Mecca.

The decision was announced by the minister in charge of Islamic affairs Zulkifli Al Bakri in a Twitter post this evening.

He shared a set of guidelines by the Saudi health ministry, which among others listed the Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines as among six brands of Covid-19 jabs recognised by the kingdom.

The others are Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Janssen.

Sinovac is one of three vaccines administered by Malaysia under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
