New cases surge past 9,000 to record high

Over 4,000 cases in Selangor, more than 1,000 in Kuala Lumpur.

Another 9,180 Covid-19 cases were recorded today, taking total confirmed infections in the country to 817,838.

Selangor recorded 4,400 cases, Kuala Lumpur 1,271, Negeri Sembilan 899, Kedah 417, Sarawak 406, Sabah 323, Johor 315, Perak 241, Melaka 222, Pahang 214, Kelantan 151 and Penang 142.

Terengganu recorded 82 cases, Labuan 80, Putrajaya 16 and Perlis one.

Active cases stand at 80,665 with 959 in the ICU and 465 in need of respiratory assistance.

Another 5,713 patients were discharged, bringing total recoveries to 731,193.

However, 77 more deaths were reported, pushing the virus toll to 5,980.
