Record 135 deaths as new cases surge past 8,800

Nearly half the new cases were recorded in Selangor.

Another 8,868 Covid-19 cases were recorded today, taking total confirmed infections in the country to 808,658.

Selangor recorded 4,152 cases, Kuala Lumpur 1,133, Negeri Sembilan 897, Perak 543, Kedah 360, Johor 336, Sarawak 281, Sabah 279, Penang 237, Melaka 183, Pahang 152 and Kelantan 135.

Terengganu recorded 68 cases, Labuan 64, Putrajaya 47 and Perlis one.

Active cases stand at 77,275 with 952 in the ICU and 445 in need of respiratory assistance.

Another 5,802 patients were discharged, bringing total recoveries to 725,480.

However, 135 more deaths were reported, pushing the virus toll to 5,903.
