New cases inch down to 5,218 as death toll passes 5,000

1,989 cases in Selangor, 629 in Negeri Sembilan.

Another 5,218 Covid-19 cases were recorded today, taking total confirmed infections in the country to 739,266.

Selangor recorded 1,989 cases, Negeri Sembilan 629, Kuala Lumpur 469, Sarawak 409, Perak 400, Sabah 258, Johor 243, Kedah 194, Melaka 183, Pahang 111, Labuan 108 and Kelantan 101.

Penang recorded 88 cases, Terengganu 23, Putrajaya eight and Perlis five.

Active cases stand at 61,812 with 899 in the ICU and 451 in need of respiratory assistance.

Another 4,744 patients were discharged, bringing total recoveries to 672,453.

However, 57 more deaths were reported, pushing the virus toll to 5,001.
