Contractors in the G1 and G2 categories appointed by local authorities to carry out construction work for small-scale projects have been allowed to operate throughout Phase One of the movement control order with immediate effect.

The housing and local government ministry said the matter was decided at a special session of the National Security Council (NSC) on June 21, chaired by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

In a statement today, it said the contractors would not need to obtain permission through the international trade and industry ministry’s Covid-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS) as approval would be issued by the local authorities to speed up the process.

It added that the contractors must adhere to the SOPs issued by the NSC and the government to curb the spread of Covid-19.
