The Sarawak state health department identified four new clusters yesterday, two of which were linked to recent Aidilfitri gatherings.

The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said both the Raya-linked clusters were reported in the Kuching district while the other two community clusters involved longhouses in Kanowit and Pakan.

In the Taman Sourabaya Indah cluster in Kuching, a total of 34 people from five close families gathered at the home of the index case to celebrate Aidilfitri on May 13.

The SDMC said nine of them tested positive while three more are awaiting their laboratory results.

The Jalan Jambatan Gantung cluster in Kuching, meanwhile, was detected when the index case who lives there visited several houses in the city during Aidilfitri.

“Following the screening of close contacts, nine tested positive while one is still waiting for results,” the SDMC said in a statement.

It said the Sungai Majau community cluster in Kanowit involved a longhouse in Nanga Setapang, Sungai Majau, where 51 individuals were tested, with 26 returning positive and one more still awaiting results.

Meanwhile, the Bukit Temedak community cluster in Pakan also involved a longhouse in Merampu, Bukit Temedak, where 88 individuals were screened, 20 of whom tested positive and 10 of whom are still waiting for their results.

Sarawak yesterday recorded 663 new cases, taking its total infections to 42,283 while three fatalities were reported, pushing the death toll to 252.
