Law minister Takiyuddin Hassan says Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will chair a meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) tomorrow to discuss the movement control order (MCO) currently in force across most of the country.

This comes in the wake of back-to-back waves of over 6,000 new infections for the past two days, with a record 6,806 cases recorded today.

Takiyuddin said a full-scale MCO was among the measures to be considered by the NSC.

“This will be discussed before any decision is made,” he said, adding that state menteris besar and chief ministers would also attend the 3pm meeting.

Speaking to reporters in Kota Bharu, he said the federal government takes a serious view of the spread of Covid-19.

He cited the rising case numbers as well as the death toll which has exceeded 2,000 but acknowledged that recoveries too had increased with the cooperation of the health ministry and police force.

He said the government had implemented the MCO, recovery MCO, conditional MCO and enhanced MCO in general or targeted degrees depending on the situation.

While positive cases should be quickly isolated and treated, he said, control measures were just as important.

“This is why we have been emphasising SOP compliance.”
