Daily death toll climbs to new high

47 deaths reported today.

Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 death toll reached a new high of 47 today, with close to 5,000 infections reported across the country as of noon.

Eighteen deaths were reported in Selangor and five deaths were reported in Sarawak and Penang respectively. Johor, Kuala Lumpur and Kelantan reported four deaths each while Perak reported three deaths, Pahang two, and Kedah and Negeri Sembilan one each.

The oldest person who died was a 94-year-old woman in Perak who had suffered from high blood pressure while the youngest was a 33-year-old woman in Kelantan who suffered from asthma and obesity.

Selangor also reported the bulk of the country’s 4,865 new cases with 1,743 infections, far ahead of any other state including Sarawak which reported the second highest number of cases with 512.

While 3,497 patients had recovered and were discharged from hospital, 531 remained in the ICU with 277 in need of respiratory assistance.

The total death toll now stands at 1,994.

Nineteen new clusters were also detected, in Johor, Selangor, Penang, Kedah, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Terengganu, Sarawak and Perak.
