Sarawak will allow students who are currently on campus to return home for the Aidilfitri holidays without having to take Covid-19 RT-PCR tests.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily statement said the matter was decided following the extension of the closure period for educational institutions.

“Previously, students who are currently at institutions of higher learning and boarding schools were not allowed to leave or return to their home towns.

“Following the decision to extend the closure period of educational institutions, the committee has decided to allow students living in hostels to return to their homes without having to undergo RT-PCR screen tests,” it said.

Earlier, the higher education ministry announced that students will be allowed to go home in stages from May 7 to 12 while the movement of students returning to campus will be from May 15 to 20.

“Students are given a choice of whether to return to their homes or to remain on campus during the holidays. This approval is in line with the previous relaxation given by the National Security Council for the education sector,” the ministry had said.
