Cases surge in Sarawak as 1,767 new infections reported

607 new cases in Sarawak alone.

Another 1,767 Covid-19 cases were recorded today, taking total confirmed infections in the country to 363,940.

Sarawak reported 607 cases followed by Selangor (483), Kuala Lumpur (133), Sabah (117) and Kelantan (103).

Penang reported 92 cases, Johor 74, Kedah 39, Perak 36, Terengganu 29, Melaka 17, Pahang 14, Terengganu 13, Putrajaya seven and Labuan three.

Active cases stand at 16,300 with 199 in the ICU and 82 in need of respiratory assistance.

Nine new clusters were detected:

1. Jalan Puncak Borneo (Kuching in Sarawak; 111 screened, 61 positive)
2. Jalan Raja Laut (Lembah Pantai, Cheras, Kepong and Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur; 100 screened, 20 positive)
3. Jalan Hishamuddin (Lembah Pantai in Kuala Lumpur; 79 screened, nine positive)
4. Lebuh Wawasan (Putrajaya, Lembah Pantai in Kuala Lumpur and Seremban in Negeri Sembilan; 65 screened, 11 positive)
5. Tabanak (Lahad Datu in Sabah; 89 screened, 15 positive)
6. Kampung Gayang (Tuaran in Sabah; 548 screened, 23 positive)
7. Taman Malim Jaya (Melaka Tengah and Jasin in Melaka; 52 screened, 13 positive)
8. Jalan Salleh (Muar in Johor; 100 screened, 23 positive)
9. Jalan Bukit Belida (Seremban in Negeri Sembilan; 27 screened, 15 positive)

Ten others ended, leaving 344 active clusters throughout the country.

Another 1,290 patients were discharged, bringing total recoveries to 346,295.

However, 12 more deaths were reported, pushing the virus toll to 1,345.
