Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad says popular tourist destination Langkawi continues to attract investors despite the country’s ongoing struggle with the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said while tourist arrivals to the island had dropped because of the pandemic, investors are optimistic about the future of its tourism industry.

“Many people are keen to invest in Langkawi although there are no tourists at the moment. They (investors) have high hopes for the future.

“So the authorities that are responsible for approving investments should act quickly so that we are prepared when tourists can start to come to Langkawi again,” he told reporters after a walkabout at Pantai Chenang today.

He also said that some potential investors are looking to open hotels, shopping malls and factory outlets.
