The movement control order (MCO) in Penang, Selangor, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Labuan, Johor, Melaka and Kelantan will be extended a week until Feb 4, Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob says.

The MCO in these states was originally scheduled to end on Jan 26.

In his daily update on the Covid-19 situation today, Ismail said the decision was made based on the risk assessment and advice of the health ministry, in light of the continuing increase in cases throughout these states.

The MCO was initially implemented in six states: Penang, Selangor, the federal territories (Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan), Melaka, Johor and Sabah.

Pahang, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan were placed under conditional MCO while Perlis and Sarawak were put under recovery MCO.

Kelantan came under MCO on Jan 16, while Pahang, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah and Terengganu will come under MCO tomorrow.

The MCO in all these states will end simultaneously on Feb 4.
