2020 ends with most new cases yet as death toll goes up by 8

2,525 new cases push total confirmed infections to 113,010.

Another 2,525 Covid-19 cases were recorded today, taking total confirmed infections in the country to 113,010.

Selangor recorded 1,205 new cases, of which 995 or 82.6% were from clusters and close contact screening.

Sabah meanwhile recorded 299, Melaka 239, Kuala Lumpur 222 and Johor 194.

Penang recorded 92 cases, Negeri Sembilan 78, Labuan 63, Kelantan 37, Perak 33, Kedah 24, Terengganu 17, Pahang 15, Putrajaya five and Sarawak two.

Active cases stand at 23,598 with 131 in the ICU and 60 in need of respiratory assistance.

Five new clusters were detected: Jalan Galah (Klang in Selangor; 22 cases), Jalan Datuk (Titiwangsa, Kepong and Lembah Pantai in Kuala Lumpur; 23 cases), Kampung Baharu (Johor Bahru and Pontian in Johor; 35 cases), Pekeliling (Johor Bahru in Johor; 27 cases) and Jalan Rasah (Seremban in Negeri Sembilan; 17 cases).

Three others ended today, leaving 225 active clusters across the country.

Another 1,481 patients were discharged, bringing total recoveries to 88,941.

However, eight more deaths were reported, pushing the virus toll to 471.
