Putrajaya has received 49 recommendations from a committee tasked with improving the electoral system, says Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Takiyuddin Hassan.

He told the Dewan Rakyat today that a special committee chaired by senior minister Mohamed Azmin Ali would be formed to study the recommendations submitted by the Electoral Reform Committee (ERC).

The recommendations on improving the processes as well as the legal aspects of elections were submitted on Aug 27 in a report by the ERC, two years after it was set up by the previous Pakatan Harapan government.

Takiyuddin said the government would study each suggestion individually, adding that it will need to get feedback from the related agencies including the Election Commission (EC).

“The government will definitely announce the committee’s findings and, if needed, will table it in the Dewan Rakyat for debate.”

The ERC is chaired by former EC chairman Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman.

It is tasked with reviewing all aspects of elections and gathering suggestions from political parties, voters and NGOs.
